Dr Barry Hayes
Biography
Dr. Barry Hayes is an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering at University College Cork (UCC) and Funded Investigator in the MaREI SFI Research Centre for Energy, Climate, and Marine. Prior to joining UCC in 2018, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Galway (2016-2018), and a Marie Sklodowska-Curie research fellow at IMDEA Energy in Madrid (2013-2016). He holds a PhD in Electrical Power Systems Engineering from the University of Edinburgh (2013), and has held visiting research positions at National Grid UK (2011) and at the University of Tennessee (2016). Barry leads a research team at UCC focused on the grid integration of sustainable energy technologies, and the operation and planning of future power systems. Barry has a number of active research collaborations with industry and international academic partners, and has given more than 20 invited presentations at events in Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia. Barry is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and is involved in the development of new IEEE standards. He has co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed, international publications in books, conferences, and journals. Barry regularly contributes to public science and technology communication through Ireland’s national broadcaster, RTÉ.
