Dr Ofentse Mazimba

Dr Ofentse is an Organic Chemistry Lecturer in the Department of Chemical and Forensic Science. His PhD was obtained from the University of Botswana in 2011 and was supported by the European Union under the Morama II project (EU FP-6 grant (FP6-2004-INCO-DEV-3-MARAMA II – 032059). He conducts research on plant secondary metabolites and the synthesis of organic molecules. After his PhD he was engaged as an NMR Scientist by the University of Botswana for 2 years ending 2014. Thereafter he joined Botswana Institute for Technology, Research and Innovation (BITRI), then in 2017 joined BIUST. He was funded by the UB research office to synthesize chromone structured compounds. At BIUST this project was continued by the Initiation grant to synthesis heterocyclic compounds, resulting in a completed MSc thesis. He has supervised several undergraduate research projects, two MSc and one Phd who is about to defend his thesis. Dr Mazimba has published 27 articles in peer reviewed journals and is an Academic Editor for PlosOne journal and Molecules special issue.
